Clara's Room

I don't like posting pictures of rooms in my house because I am awful picture taker, but I wanted to post pictures of Clara's room.  I am in love with this room, but of course, my pictures don't do it justice.

My mom bought the quilt off Etsy from Fern Leslie.  Then, my talented mother-in-law made the bedding and pillows. We ordered fabric from the quilt patches.  All of the fabric is Heather Bailey and Amy Butler.  My sweet friend Traci made her wreath on the door and the framed Bible verse above her chest of drawers.  The shelf above the bed has a framed Katie Daisy print along with stuff from my childhood bedroom.  The dried flowers are from our grandmother's recent funerals.  Will made the shutter headboard and the shutter changing table beside the bed.  The window treatments are canvas drop cloths from Lowe's.  Her memo board was made by awesome friend Megan.  The blanket on the rocker was made by my Aunt Vickie. The gown on the window was also made by mother-in-law. It is a little wrinkled in this pic.  Hudson used it for his baptism, and so will Clara!  The paper lanterns above the bed are Martha Stewart.

I am going to post some close ups of the bedding in my next post.  My mother-in-law is an awesome seamstress and she needs her own post.

Noom

He calls it his noom. New + Room = Noom. Makes sense. It still needs work..including a few pictures and a new light fixture.

Our friend Erin got us the map for FREE!

The chicken wire frame came from a consignment sale for 7 bucks. I think it will be a cool way to show his art work, birthday invites, pictures, and memories. We still need to refinish the nightstand...real wood and 12 bucks from same consignment sale.

Comforter-Overstock
Sheets-Target
Bed-in the family
All other stuff-thrift store

We found the lockers in Will's family's basement. The chest of drawers are from Pop's childhood. Will calls them chester drawers. Everything else is from the thrift store!

I copied Ashley Ann Photography on her roller shades and happy tape idea. And the rug. And the colors. I love her ideas.

He is so proud of his new space. He runs in everyday screaming, "Noom, noom, noom." Sweet boy.

I heart vintage finds.

Well, half of my birthday celebrations were postponed until next week due to our sick baby. I did get to go the thrift store last night to pick up anything I wanted. Anything? This could be dangerous.

Guess who lives in our house now?

I could take off the desk part and make a chair like Ashley Ann did. Or, I could leave him as is. He is in our living room as of now, right under 6 globes. I am starting to think my living room looks like an old school room.

Nook

We finally finished our little bedroom nook. Thanks to my talented husband!

Our bedroom had a little dent in the wall with a window. A vent was on the carpet, so it was wasted space.

Will redirected the air vent and made a frame for a bench.

Then, he built the bench. He made it so that it opened for storage. It was a hard job, so he needed Huds to help.

He painted it white. We had leftover paint from a previous project.

Then, it was my turn. Time to make it personal.

First, we needed a pad to sit on. We found a burlap type patio pad at Old Time Pottery for around 12 bucks. I just snipped the tie on ends.

Then, I found a shutter for 4 dollars, which was turned into a shelf. I framed old hymns to go above the shelf.

I clipped our missionaries onto some twine and hung the twine from the shelf. Now, while I am doing my quiet time, I can remember to pray for them!

I covered an old cork board ( 1 dollar thrift store find) with burlap leftover from my table runner. I decorated the burlap with paper doilies. This is where I clip my little reminders.

Then, I covered four pillows in fabric. I had lots of help from my patient mother in law! Two of the pillows were yard sale finds, and two were ones my mom gave me. The fabric cost around 10 dollars.

Here is the finished project:

It has added so much character to our room! It is a little refuge for me!

The initial cost was the most-for wood and redirecting the vent-around 60. We tried to find everything else really cheaply. The total investment was probably 85 or so! Not bad!

I love my little nook.

Thrift Store Finds

I love thrift stores. It is exciting to rummage through tons of "junk" for little treasures. The past couple of weeks I have found several items that focus on the world. I love maps and globes, so I am pretty pumped about these finds.

A Latin map of our honeymoon location:

A vintage puzzle of the US:

Framed Latin Map of the World:

Globe:

Huge floor map:

Too bad the last one is missing Tennessee. I am excited about Hudson learning about the US through the huge floor map. I plan to hang the vintage one up in his toddler room. The rest of the goods will find resting spots around our house!

Pinterest Accomplishments

This post is simply to congratulate myself for the accomplishments I've made through Pinterest. Thanks to new motivation, our house is slowly becoming a home.

I have no idea why my pictures are so blurry. It must have something to do with lighting. I have no camera taking ability!

Reading Nook:
This is very bare bones, but my absolute favorite. It will soon be ready for its own post. My husband built this from scratch.

Aqua Mason Jars and Milk Glasses
Nothing had to be crafted on this one, but Pinterest motivated me to keep my eyes peeled out for them, and I scooped them up at a flea mall for under 6 apiece. They really make me smile. I fear they may soon meet their fate by Hudson and the broom.

The (almost) empty frame wall:
This project really brightened up our loft/playroom, and it only cost us around 8 bucks. Thank you America's Thrift Store.

Globes:
Again, nothing to be crafted, but I love globes. I owned one of these as a child and found the other 3 and yard sales and flea malls. I would love to have more.

Picture Frame Dry Erase Board:
So easy. Will and I use it to write little notes and Bible verses. You can't tell from this picture, but it is hanging by the door.

Cake Stand:
I found this abandoned plate in an empty house's yard. The candle holder cost 2 bucks. Insert super glue and you have a pretty cheap project.

Scrabble Art:
Our family scrabble game was not harmed during the making of this. We found an old game for 75 cents at America's Thrift. We love that place.

Dish liquid in soda bottle:
This little guy makes washing dishes fun.

Shutter Shelf:
In all honesty, I had this idea awhile ago. I tweaked it from the one I saw on Pinterest. He lives in our reading nook.

DIY and other home projects

Please excuse my picture taking ability. I think you either have this talent or you don't. Or you learn it.

Will bought this piano bench for 5 bucks. He sanded it before taking the picture. It was shiny and ugly. Afterwards, he painted it white and antiqued it a bit. Now, we are using it as an end table/ coffee table/ toy holder. It could even be a toddler desk. Not bad for a 5.

I also added some pictures and sweet notes from Will into our empty frame wall. I don't know if I will keep it this way, but we are trying it out.

We also finally replaced our lunchroom industrial light. It now lives in the garage.

This little 16 dollar number has taken its place.

It isn't much, but that huge light has been a thorn in my side for sometime. Our new one goes well with our other kitchen light fixtures. I also don't have migraines from standing under it. Nor do I need SPF 50.

If you have the same problem, Will says this is a rather simple project. I love that he knows how to do this stuff!

We have also added more stuff to our white framed stairway. I got this idea from the young house love blog. I love it. It really pops.

This is my favorite. It is from Katie Daisy. Really warms my heart.

I will be sad when my handyman goes back to work. He is currently at Lowe's purchasing wood for my little reading nook. Pinterest has made me discontent. Projects will forever be endless.
